About Us
An integrated air-based, space-based and ground-based meteorological observation system has been established with nine FENGYUN meteorological satellites in orbit, providing data products and services to 129 countries and regions.
2024 in Focus丨Glimpse of global extreme weather and climate events from the lens of FENGYUN meteorological satellites
Extreme weather events worldwide in November and December through the lens of FENGYUN meteorological satellites
Extreme weather events worldwide in September and October through the lens of FENGYUN meteorological satellites
FY-3D meteorological satellite kept tabs on fire spots of the wildfires raging in Los Angeles, US
On the evening of January 8, local time, wildfires continued to rage in the Los Angeles area of California, the United States. According to fire spot monitoring captured by FENGYUN-3D meteorological satellite, except Palisades fire, 4 new fires went off. The most grave one is Eaton Fire.
First application of Beidou sounding data for upper-air baseline climate observation realized in Xilinhot, China
At 07:15 on January 1, a balloon carrying a Beidou satellite navigation sounding device lifted off at the Xilinhot Upper-air Observatory (hereinafter referred to as the Observatory) in Inner Mongolia, China.
Data from commercial meteorological small satellites were allowed to enter China's meteorological operational system for the first time
On December 30, 2024, 23 satellites of the “Tianmu-1” constellation and 12 satellites of the “Yunyao-1” series entered the integrated meteorological observing system of CMA and started operation.

Ground-based
By the end of 2022, a nationwide ground-based observation network consisting of 10,963 observation stations was established.
MORE+
Air-based
By the end of 2022, China had a total of 120 upper-air meteorological observation stations, as well as more than 100 wind profile radars and more than 900 GNSS/MET observation instruments.
MORE+
Sea-based
By the end of 2022, China had built a network of more than five hundred marine observation stations consisting of island stations, offshore platform stations and offshore buoy stations.

Quality Management
Quality Management
The meteorological observation quality management system, as one of the main internationally prescribed quality management and assurance measurement systems, plays a guiding and standardizing role in the implementation of meteorological observation in China. At present, the quality management system proposed by CMA, which covers the whole process of observation operations, has received ISO9001 certification.
